Burton's beauties & more
October 26, 2010 at 8:12 PM Ever since my Halloween-obsessed boyfriend and I started dating, the holiday has kind of been like our second anniversary... even better than our real one. Our costumes last year came out so well (see old post) that we're almost expected to upstage ourselves this year. Ron is set on his costume -- he's going to be a scary clown, something I'm still trying to cope with and praying he'll change his mind about (though I know he won't). As for me, I have yet to completely set my mind on who/what I want to be. I had said I wanted to be the White Queen from Alice in Wonderland, but putting it together last minute was far too difficult. Still, I have alot of other costume ideas. To kind of narrow down my selections, I turned to someone who I knew would definitely be able to help me: Tim Burton. I decided to draw my inspiration from some of his most hauntingly beautiful leading ladies, as well as other 'non-Burton' favorites of mine.
CATWOMAN (Batman): My dream Halloween costume... though I'd never wear it unless it looked exactly like the original. I wouldn't settle for anything less. Tight leather, high heels, crazy stitching, claws, the whip, and the rouge lips... nothing tops this. I've wanted this costume every since the first time I saw this movie, about year after its release in 1989... which would have made me about 4-years-old, haha. And Michelle Pfeiffer couldn't have played this part any better.
LYDIA DEETZ (Beetlejuice): The "strange & unusual" misunderstood goth daughter who befriends the ghosts lurking about her house. This movie used to actually scare me, except for Lydia's character. I really loved all her crazy clothes.
SALLY (The Nightmare Before Christmas): The ragdoll who longs for Jack and can sew herself back together after breaking to pieces. This costume is actually a definite for me since Ron was able to find prosthetics to make this work. I'm excited to do this costume, but slightly nervous about having prosthetics applied to my face for the first time.
WEDNESDAY ADDAMS (The Addams Family): I badly wanted to be her as a kid, or find a friend who was as weird and mischievous as she was. I'm actually appalled by all the lame, trampy costume versions of this character. Come on, she was a kid! And why would you ever want to deviate from the original anyway?
THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN: Played by Elsa Lanchester, Frankenstein's main squeeze was quite a sight for sore eyes. I definitely want to do this costume for another Halloween to come.

WONDER WOMAN: To step away from the dark side for a bit, Wonder Woman is another one of those dream costumes of mine. It's a shame that most of the versions out there are usually cheap looking and just plain trashy. Lynda Carter made this costume look stunning, as it should be. I really really want to do this costume someday, but definitely not now. I'm currently lacking the glamorous long hair and, more importantly, a killer bod... which I will likely be lacking forever.
HARLEY QUINN: The supervillainess better known for being Joker's girl in the Batman comics. Harley Quinn's costume is as visually striking as it is fun. It's basically a court jester's outfit with an overabundance of sex appeal. But, like the Wonder Woman costume, it's hard to find a good version out there.
